Former NFL star Earl Thomas entangled in identity fraud scandal by ex-wife's partner

In a complex case of identity theft, Kevin J. Thompson, the current partner of Earl Thomas' ex-wife, Nina Thomas, has been detained on accusations of embezzling nearly two million dollars from the former NFL player. Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office took the 38-year-old New Orleans resident into custody following an investigation spurred by suspicious financial activities.

According to the allegations, Thompson exploited Thomas' personal information, including forging a driver's license to take funds from Thomas' NFL earnings and personal bank accounts. The fraudulent activities didn't stop at cashing checks. Thompson is said to have transferred the ownership of multiple vehicles to his name, later selling them off for profit. The exact means by which Thompson gained physical control of the vehicles remains uncertain.

The Sheriff's Office reported that a credit union in Texas, affiliated with Thomas, raised the alarm after detecting unusual transactions at Jefferson Financial in New Orleans. This alert led to the discovery that the account in question had not been opened by Thomas himself.

Further complicating matters, Thompson was apprehended a second time when attempting to recover a Rolls-Royce Cullinan SUV - a vehicle caught up in the alleged scam - on June 16th, driving another car reported as stolen.

Thompson, who is now out on a $730,000 bond, faces a multitude of charges. The counts against him include identity theft, forgery, money laundering, credit card fraud, computer fraud, and bank fraud.

Thomas has had off-field trouble since his retirement

Earl Thomas, renowned for his tenure with the Seattle Seahawks' "Legion of Boom" and celebrated with seven Pro Bowl selections, three All-Pro designations, and a Super Bowl victory, ended his NFL career in 2019. He and Nina Thomas filed for divorce in 2020, which was followed by a dramatic Christmas Eve altercation involving the former couple, both armed, in a parking lot. The dispute led to a court order requiring Thomas to maintain a distance of at least 400 feet from Nina.
