iHeartRadio to Honor Taylor Swift with Best Tour Award

The third annual iHeart Radio Music Awards, to be held on April 3, 2016 in Inglewood, California, will surely be a big night for 10-time Grammy Award winning singer-songwriter Taylor Swift. Taylor is nominated for a whopping seven awards, including Song of the Year, Female Artist of the Year, and Album of the Year. However, it was announced today that Taylor has already won one of the awards she was nominated for — Best Tour.

Taylor embarked on her fourth concert tour in support of her fifth studio album 1989 beginning in May 2015 in Tokyo, Japan and concluding in December 2015 in Melbourne, Australia. The highest-grossing concert tour of 2015 with 85 dates spread across Asia, North America, Europe, and Oceania, Taylor was a shoe-in for the award.

What set Taylor’s tour apart from fellow singers also on tour at the time like Sam Smith, Katy Perry, and Ed Sheeran, were her surprise guests. At nearly every show in the States, and a select few in Europe, Taylor brought friends out on stage to perform and/or walk with her.

There was no shortage of guests, including Fetty Wap, Rachel Platten, Nick Jonas, Kendall Jenner, Tove Lo, the Weeknd, Selena Gomez, Mariska Hargitay, Dierks Bentley, Alessia Cara, Nelly, Kobe Bryant, Little Mix, Wiz Khalifa, Charli XCX, Sean O’Pry, Ricky Martin, Leona Lewis, Pitbull, and Julia Roberts.

And that, if you can believe it, isn’t even half of them.

Taylor’s tour grossed just over a massive $250,000,000 worldwide, with nearly $200,000,000 coming from the North American legs. In doing so, Taylor broke the record set by the Rolling Stones in 2005 for the North American record of $162,000,000. With nearly 3,000,000 tickets sold, it’s not hard to see why Taylor’s the first to be honored with the award from iHeart Radio.

Best of luck to Taylor and all of the other nominees this Sunday when the iHeart Radio Music Awards airs live!
