The success of “The Shallows” is the summer’s biggest surprise hit. It’s a film that you’re not going to want to miss! It’s an intense shark tale which has also been received quite warmly from critics.
“The Shallows” recently opened this past Friday (June 24), without record breaking success, but left the audience watching captivated and “kept us on our toes.”
The film balances the crowd-pleasing thrills of a true summer blockbuster with much waited patience.
Sony claimed that they wanted a $7 million weekend. They ended up with a near $7m opening day. “The Shallows” earned $6.85m on its first day of release, including $1.3m worth of Thursday previews.
Partnerships with sites like Buzzfeed and other social influencers amounted to reaching 18 million fans around the film’s June 21 world premiere. “The Shallows” also took advantage of the Discovery Channel’s popular annual Shark Week programming, with promotion on the channel.
The film is about Nancy Adams (Blake Lively), a med school dropout with nothing to lose beyond her surfboard and cell phone. Left injured and stranded 200 yards from shore, the frightened young woman must fight for her life.
Some of the public have stated that they’re glad they spent the money to “see Blake in a bikini suit for an hour and twenty-seven minutes”. Other medias also claim that “The Shallows” is the new improved “Jaws”.
Ignatiy Vishnevetsky states that “the movie is better at synthesizing fantasies of the beach than at shattering them.”
